Edwin McCain

Edwin McCain's new Cd "Nobody's Faulty But Mine" and his 2004 "Scream and Whisper" have entertained the folks in cars next to me at red lights for the last few weeks. Of course they always look over at me singing along like a crazy person, but who cares, when you are in your vehicle you are in your own little world, right?

Edwin rocked Big Spring Jam Tonight and I sang along again and nobody looked at me like I was crazy. "I'll be your crying shoulder. . ." sang two women next to me, bawling their eyes out. So, naw, I didn't feel too crazy.

But like a crazy fan, I waited at the gate to get to talk to him. I got past security, publicists and stage managers and even his cousin to mumble a few unoriginal sentences. "I love your music," "I've been a fan for a long time." Duh, Terri could you think of something a little more original? He graciously shook my hand.

The cousin let me in on a couple of things--Edwin has two kids ages 2 and 3. "Thanks for coming to Huntsville," I said "now, get home to those kids." (Something only a mother would say) "Always, always," he said and smiled then quickly hopped onto the bus with his entourage. So when I waited at the corner of Clinton and Church for my ride and saw Edwin's bus pull around the corner I gave a wave, even though I knew he couldn't see me. Hey man, that's what it's all about. Your music is awesome, but two kids are at home waiting for Daddy. God Speed.
